Carpentry KickStart

KickStart The KickStart programmes seek to include a vocational skills training programme combined with a life skills and 'work readiness' course. We have launched this initiative with a carpentry orientated course and plans are underway to include other artisan trade skills linked to specific employment opportunities. Successful graduates of the current carpentry programme move on to specific apprenticeship placements.

The first 5 beneficiaries of our Carpentry KickStart have just finished the programme and will commence a 3 month apprenticeship at Eco furniture design. On completion, early in 2017, they will be employed by the same company.

Bakeries for Imizamo Yethu!
Skills2Work has purchased the first Mama Mimis oven for Imizamo Yethu as part of a joint venture with ikhaya le themba and ASK training to provide employment opportunities in the community.

The The Mama Mimis franchise opportunity provides a wood burning oven, support, training and a reliable supply chain into the hands of competent bakers who can supply their immediate community.

The initiative was launched following a 2 week and job readiness programme in addition to the franchise training and is already making a difference in the community and of course to the new bakers!

"...Earn your own living, as we told you before. If you do these things, you will re-gain respect for the way you live and you will not have to depend on others for what you need.
- 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Thanks to the Selwyn Trust (UK) who have assisted by sponsoring the launch of our KickStart training programmes.

The carpentry orientation course with work readiness and life skills training ensures that the beneficiaries are prepared and committed to the apprenticeship opportunities that we arrange for them. Five beneficiaries have now begun a 3 month apprenticeship at Eco-Furniture following our KickStart programme.

The success of the S2W's e-learning tools, initially used at Network, has led us to consider offering computer based training facilities to other NGO's where the need arises. We are able to adapt any suitable training material for NGO programmes.

We are also keen to develop a 'Build & Train' project which would see the building of a replicable, secure and fire-proof township dwelling whilst providing simultaneous building skills training throughout the assembly process.

Would you like to help take someone out of unemployment and poverty and give them the opportunity of long-term employment?
